The new A1 features an aggressive design, especially with the S Line exterior pack that includes sporty bumper with large air intakes surrounding the wide Singleframe grille. The three flat slits below the edge of the hood are a homage to the Sport quattro, while the optional full-LED headlights give the car a more upmarket feel.

At the rear, the sculpted LED taillights merge with the pronounced shoulders wile there is also a roof edge spoiler. The profile features deep character lines, a floating roof effect, a strong C-pillar and new alloy wheels from 15 to 18 inches.

The premium B-Segment car will be available with a range of turbocharged petrol engines including the three cylinder 1.0 TFSI, the four cylinder 1.5 TFSI (combined with manual or the 7 speed S tronic transmission) and the mighty four cylinder 2.0 TFSI with a power output of 147 kw/200 hp exclusively combined with the 6 speed S Tronic dual clutch transmision which definitely justifies it as a hot hatchback!

The top of the range version – the A1 Sportback 40 TFSI –  has the same engine (and platform) with the Volkswagen Polo VI GTI but features richer equipment, upmarket styling and more premium materials, to justify the higher pricing. This means that we will probably get something a bit faster than the Polo GTI’s 0-100 km/h time of 6,7 seconds and 237 km/h (147 mph) top speed. The car will also feature a number of the latest safety equipment and driving assistance systems like autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and automated parking assist.

Besides getting a more modern and aggressive exterior, the second generation of the A1 has also grown in size, measuring 4030 mm (length) / 1740 mm (width) / 1410 mm (height) thanks to the latest MQB A0 platform.

For the hot hatch fans, there is also an optional “Performance” dynamic package that include sport suspension setting with adjustable absorbers, larger ventilated disc brakes (312 mm/272 mm), red brake calipers, Audi Drive Select (driving modes) and a sound actuator.

As for the successor of the Audi S1, unfortunately there is no official information yet. The fastest version of the first generation A1 launched in 2014, fitted with the 2.0 TFSI engine producing 170 kW (231 hp) and 370 Nm of torque, combined with quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system (learn more here)

UPDATE: Audi exec announced that there will be no second generation S1, due to the high cost of development.

Behind the three spoke multifunction steering wheel we find Audi’s 10.25 inch Virtual Cockpit that works together with the latest MMI infotainment system featuring an 8.8 or 10.1 inch screen. The center console is angled towards the driver while on the passenger side the air vents are merging.

Thanks to the new VW Group’s MQB A0 platform (shared with the VW Polo VI and the Seat Ibiza MK5) and the generous exterior dimensions, the cabin is more spacious than before, and the boot is larger (from 335 liters to 1090 liters with the rear seats folded).
