The all new Audi A1 Sportback
Following a lengthy teaser campaign, Audi revealed the first pictures of the second generation A1 Sportback, together with some information about the range.
The premium B-Segment car will be available with a range of turbocharged petrol engines including the three cylinder 1.0 TFSI, the four cylinder 1.5 TFSI (combined with manual or the 7 speed S tronic transmission) and the mighty four cylinder 2.0 TFSI with a power output of 147 kw/200 hp exclusively combined with the 6 speed S Tronic dual clutch transmision which definitely justifies it as a hot hatchback!
The top of the range version – the A1 Sportback 40 TFSI – has the same engine (and platform) with the Volkswagen Polo VI GTI but features richer equipment, upmarket styling and more premium materials, to justify the higher pricing. This means that we will probably get something a bit faster than the Polo GTI’s 0-100 km/h time of 6,7 seconds and 237 km/h (147 mph) top speed. The car will also feature a number of the latest safety equipment and driving assistance systems like autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and automated parking assist.
For the hot hatch fans, there is also an optional “Performance” dynamic package that include sport suspension setting with adjustable absorbers, larger ventilated disc brakes (312 mm/272 mm), red brake calipers, Audi Drive Select (driving modes) and a sound actuator.
As for the successor of the Audi S1, unfortunately there is no official information yet. The fastest version of the first generation A1 launched in 2014, fitted with the 2.0 TFSI engine producing 170 kW (231 hp) and 370 Nm of torque, combined with quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system (learn more here)
UPDATE: Audi exec announced that there will be no second generation S1, due to the high cost of development.
