The performance version Volvo V40 T5 R-Design Drive-E launched in 2014, replacing the 2.5 liter five cylinder engine of the older V40 T5 with a new Drive-E (VEA) four cylinder turbo petrol engine that produced 245 hp (180 kw) of power and 350 Nm of torque, combined with an 8 speed automatic gearbox. The car accelerated from 0-100 km/h in 6,3 seconds and could reach a top speed of 240 km/h (143 mph).  It also came with it’s predecessor’s Sport chassis developed in cooperation with Swedish racing driver Robert Dahlgren in the Volvo Polestar Black R team, featuring 10 mm lowered suspension, firmer springs and shock absorbers (McPherson struts at the front and Monotube dampers at the rear) and larger anti-roll bars.

Visually, it was wore the R-Design bodykit with sporty front bumper, 18 inch five spoke wheels, rear spoiler and two exhaust pipes. The facelifted version came in 2016 featuring redesigned “Thor’s hammer” headlight graphics.
