Another Euro B-Segment hot hatch rivalry for this week, this time between the Abarth Grande Punto Esseesse from Italy and the Seat Ibiza MK4 Cupra from Spain (based on Volkswagen Group’s platform). Both models aimed at the passionate petrolheads of the younger generation and were fitted with turbocharged 1,4 liter engines producing an identical 180 hp / 132 kw. They also had equally aggressive bodykits with different bumpers, larger rims and sporty touches in the cabin. The biggest difference between the two was the gearbox, with Abarth choosing a 6-speed manual and Seat going with the 7-speed dual clutch automatic (DSG).
So lets start with a design battle before we move on to their specifications.
Note: For the purpose of this comparison, we use the more powerful Esseesse version of the Abarth Grande Punto which has very similar specifications with the standard Ibiza Cupra.
