New Abarth 695 70° Anniversario special edition
As part of the celebrations for their 70th birthday, Abarth launched another special edition of their famous hot hatch – the 695 70° Anniversario – which will be produced in a limited number of 1949 units honoring the year the company was founded.
The most important element of the car is the new “Spoiler ad Assetto Variabile” which was developed by Abarth engineers in the FCA wind tunnel in Orbassano (Turin). According to the company, the spoiler which can be manually adjusted in 12 different positions with an inclination from 0° to 60° improves performance as it “increases grip on fast mixed courses and stability at high speeds”. In the maximum inclination position (60°), the spoiler increases the aerodynamic load by up to 42 kilograms at a speed of 200 km/h.
To prove their point, Abarth took the car in the Curvone of the Vallelunga circuit, where the “Spoiler ad Assetto Variabile” allowed the driver to reduce steering corrections by almost 40%.
Besides the fancy spoiler, the special edition is distinguished by the 17″ SuperSport alloy wheels and unique bodykit that adds fender, side sill and bumper extensions painted in Campovolo grey, with matching graphics. The rest of the bodywork is painted in Monza 1958 green livery as a tribute to the colour of the first 500 Abarth that set six international records at Monza in 1958.
Under the bonnet, there is the turbocharged four-cylinder 1.4-liter engine producing 180 hp / 132kw and 250 Nm of torque – which is identical to the recent 595 Esseesse and the 595 Competizione. This allows a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 6,7″ and a top speed of 225 km/h. The car is also equipped with the active Record Monza exhaust offering a rich soundtrack. Stopping power comes from 305 mm ventilated discs at the front with four-piston aluminum Brembo calipers painted in red, and 240 mm ventilated discs at the back.
Inside we find a numbered plate, “Sabelt Tricolore” seats and the Uconnect 7″ HD infotainment system with DAB digital radio, navigation, Abarth Telemetry, Apple Carplay and Android Auto support.
The new Abarth 695 70°Anniversario special edition was presented at the 2019 Abarth Days, the largest gathering of fans of the Scorpion in Europe with no word on pricing or the availability.
