Abarth 500 (FIAT) Essesse

Description

The Fiat 500 is a A-Segment car launched in 2007 and facelifted in 2016.

The performance version, Abarth 500, launched in 2008 at the 78th Geneva Motor Show, a year after the rebirth of the Abarth brand (FCA’s subsidiary). The car was developed by the Fiat Group Automobiles Style Centre with the spirit of the legendary 500 Abarths of the 1960s.

The Abarth 500 Essesse is a more focused version of the car, capitalizing on the racing experience of Abarth. The Essesse kit came in a wooden case and could only be sold and installed by the official network of Abarth converters, guaranteeing compliance with the highest testing and safety standards. The kit included engine upgrades that allowed the  1.4 16v Turbo T-Jet engine to achieve a maximum power of 160 CV (147 KW) at 5750 g/min with peak torque of 230 Nm at 3000 g/min in “Sport Mode”. Thanks to those figures, the car accelerated from 0-100 km/h in 7,4 seconds and could reach a top speed of 211 km/h.

The “esseesse” kit also included perforated and ventilated front brake discs (diameter 284mm x 22mm), perforated rear brake discs (diameter 240mm x 11mm, high-performance front brake pads, retuned springs that were lowered in comparison to the original car, specific air filter powered by BMC and four tire pressure sensors.

Visually the car was distinguished from the regular 500 by an aggressive bodykit that included a redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes, side skirts, new rear bumper with a diffuser and twin chromed exhaust pipes, as well as sporty alloy wheels and a rear wing. The Essesse version was also fitted with unique 7″ x 17″ ET35 alloy wheels, finished in white or titanium, teamed with 205/40 ZR 17 Pirelli Pzero tires, and could also be distinguished by the “esseesse” badges on the engine hood and the tailgate.

In 2012, the car was replaced by an updated version, the Abarth 595 which was facelifted in 2016. Other versions of the Abarth 500 include the limited edition 695 Tributo Ferrari (2009) and the more extreme 695 Biposto (2014)
