Description

The Ford Focus RS MK3 made its global public debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show as the top of the range performance version.

The all aluminium 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine producing 345hp (257kw) and  470Nm of torque, thanks to a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger with larger compressor, much bigger intercooler, less restrictive intake design and a large-bore high performance exhaust system. The cylinder head is produced from an upgraded alloy material capable of withstanding higher temperatures, and is mounted on a more robust head gasket with improved thermal capability. The cylinder block employs stronger high-tensile cast iron liners. The six-speed manual transmission has been optimised for the enthusiast driver with a shorter gear lever and revised mechanism to deliver faster and more accurate shifts. Both the transmission and the clutch have been upgraded with stronger components to cope with the engine’s increased torque output. The car accelerated from 0-100km/h in 4,7 seconds and could reach a top speed of 266km/h (165mph).

The car featured an All Wheel Drive system with Dynamic Torque Vectoring (based on twin electronically-controlled clutch packs on each side of the rear drive unit), selectable Drive Modes (Normal, Sport, Track or Drift Mode) and Launch Control. Other exclusive features include sports suspension with stiffer spring rates and more efficient bushes and anti-roll-bars than those found in the Focus ST, two-mode switchable dampers, electric power-assisted steering system, shorter steering link arms and a high-performance Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres 235/35 R19 tyres. For enhanced braking during hard track driving, the car features 350 mm ventilated front discs and lightweight aluminium Brembo four-piston monoblock callipers.

On the exterior, the redesigned bodykit includes larger grille and air intakes in the front bumper, a deep front splitter, lower wings and large outboard openings on each side of the car, rear roof spoiler and a rear diffuser which contains the twin round high-performance exhaust outlets. Throughout the cabin, the distinctive blue RS theme is echoed through heavily-bolstered partial-leather Recaro sports seats, flat-bottomed steering wheel with a soft-feel leather covered rim, alloy foot pedals, unique instrument graphics within the main cluster, floor mats and interior trim.
