Mercedes-AMG A 45 4Matic+ W177

Description

The Mercedes-AMG A45 4Matic+ W177 is the most powerful version of the fourth generation A-Class launched in 2019.

The M139 2.0 liter engine with a twinscroll turbocharger produces 285 kW (387 hp) and 480 Nm of torque in the A 45 and up to  310 kW (421 hp) and 500 Nm of torque in the more powerful A 45 S. The engine is mated to the AMG Speedshift DCT 8G dual clutch gearbox, which sends the power to all four wheels with the help of the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ system. Furthermore, power can be distributed to the rear axle, thanks to the new rear axle differential with two multidisc clutches (one for each rear wheel) and the AMG Torque Control system with a Drift mode!

As for performance, the A 45  accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The more powerful A 45 S accelerates from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 270 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package. This makes it quicker than the Audi RS3 Sportback MK3 (facelift) (0-100km/h in 4,1″) which retains the fastest top speed (280 km/h).

Driver can select between six modes from the AMG Dynamic Select (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual and Race) which change the behaviour of the engine, the gearbox, the suspension (optional AMG Ride Control), the 3-stage ESP, the electro-mechanical steering and the AMG exhaust flaps. Suspension is tuned by AMG and consists of McPherson struts at the front axle and 4-link rear suspension. According to Mercedes, the new setting and suspension geometry offers high directional stability and highly dynamic cornering characteristics with low body roll while at the same time it offers improved comfort compared to the preceding model.

Visually, the A 45 is distinguished from the A 35 by the different grille, the redesigned bumper with larger inlets and the wider front fenders. The extended side sills, large rear spoiler, deep rear bumper and rear diffuser are common with the  A 35, however the A 45 has quad exhaust pipes with a diameter of 82 mm (90 mm in the A 45 S). The base version features 10-spoke 18″ rims with 245/40 R18 tires while the A45 S has larger 19″ rims with 235/40 R19 tires. Behind them we find uprated brakes – 350 mm ventilated and perforated discs with monoblock 4-piston calipers at the front and 330 mm ventilated and perforated discs with 1-piston calipers at the rear. The optional AMG Dynamic Plus pack includes even larger 360 mm front discs with red painted 6-piston calipers at the front which are standard in the A 45 S.

Inside we find the dual screen MBUX infotainment system, optional head-up display, optional AMG Track Pace data logger, AMG Performance seat pack, AMG steering wheel in nappa leather, galvanised steering wheel gearshift paddles, Artico leather or Dinamica microfiber upholstery, red stitching, yellow details (A 45 S), chrome and aluminium accents, AMG door sills and pedals from stainless steel.
