Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic W177
The Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic W177 is the first performance derivative of the fourth-generation A-Class launched in 2018 as a five-door premium hot hatchback. The A 35 is the third most powerful version of the A-Class below the range-topping A 45 and A 45 S.
Under the bonnet there is a twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine with lightweight die-cast aluminium crankcase, producing 306 hp / 225kw and 400 Nm of torque combined with the AMG Speedshift DCT 7G dual-clutch transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels thanks to the AMG Performance 4MATIC variable all-wheel-drive system which offers up to 50:50 torque distribution. Thanks to all that power, the A35 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4,7 seconds while it can reach a top speed of 250km/h (155mph).
The A35 offers five AMG Dynamic Select driving programs – Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual – which alter a wide range of vehicle characteristics, while the ESP can be fully deactivated. The reworked AMG Ride Control suspension has a McPherson strut with aluminium wishbones on the front axle and a 4-link rear axle, while it can be optionally combined with the three-mode Adaptive Damping system. The electro-mechanical sports power steering has a special rack and variable ratio. The more powerful braking system includes 4-piston Monoblock fixed callipers and 350 millimetre ventilated brake discs at the front and 1-piston sliding callipers and 330 millimetre ventilated brake discs at the back. Other modifications include a reinforced bodyshell with a bolted aluminium plate under the engine and two additional diagonal braces at the front of underbody for increased torsional stiffness. Lastly, for a better sound experience, the car is fitted with the AMG exhaust system which features exhaust flap for sound modulation.
Visually, the A35 AMG is distinguished by the redesigned radiator grille with twin louvres, the AMG Line front apron with flicks on the air intakes, front splitter, 18-inch alloy wheels with twin-spoke design, extended side sills, roof spoiler, more prominent rear diffuser and two round tailpipes.
Inside, the car comes with a new flat bottomed AMG steering wheel with touch control buttons, perforated leather trim, red contrasting topstitching and new galvanised gearshift paddles. The sport seats are covered in Artico man-made leather with Dinamica microfibre in black, red stitching and red belts. The digital instrument cluster offers three AMG display styles while the MBUX infotainment system with voice control and a large touch screen has an optional AMG Track Pace function that records and saves various vehicle-specific data while driving on a race track, displaying the ideal line for the driver to follow on specific tracks like Nürburgring or Spa Francorchamps.
