Description

The fourth generation of the Renault Clio was a B-segment car launched at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, for the first time only availablein 5-door bodystyle.

The performance oriented Renault Clio IV RS 200 was fitted with a turbocharged 1.6 liter engine producing 200 hp (147 kw) of power and 240 Nm of torque, combined exclusively with a 6 speed automatic gearbox (EDC). The car accelerated from 0-100kph in 6.7 seconds, covered the 1,000 metres in 27.1 seconds from a standing start and reached a top speed of 230kph (143mph). The suspension (pseudo-MacPherson strut at the front) came with sturdier elements to increase stiffness in the unit incorporating wheel, upright, bearings and larger damper at the front. At the rear, the ticker anti-roll bar was 10% stiffer than it’s predecessor. The car also featured larger brakes (320 mm discs in the front and 260 mm at the back), Launch Control, an electronic differential (R.S. Diff) that improved handling and limited understeer, and driving modes (‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Race’).

The optional Cup chassis came with a 3 mm drop in ride height, 15% stiffer suspension and a quicker steering rack.

Visually, the car is distinguished by redesigned bumpers with larger air intakes, LED daytime running lights integrated in the bumper, wider sills, 17 inch or 18 inch wheels, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and twin exhaust tail pipes. Inside the car had a black trim with red details, bucket seats, sporty gear lever knob, dark metal shift paddles behind the steering wheel with RS badging. In addition, the R.S. Monitor 2.0’s customisable display uses dials, histograms and highly visual graphics to provide the following data in real-time while with the R-Sound effect app, the owner can choose to replicate the sounds of seven cars (Alpine A110, R8 Gordini and Nissan GT-R).

Renault Clio IV RS 200 (facelift) and Renault Clio IV RS Trophy 220

In 2016, the car received a facelift that included minor cosmetic and mechanical changes. The facelifted model featured a choise of two power outputs (200hp and 220hp) and three different types of chassis (Sport chassis with 17- or 18-inch wheels, a strengthened Cup chassis with 18-inch wheels or a Trophy chassis with 18-inch wheels and lowered suspension by 20mm at the front and 10mm at the rear). The more focused Trophy version could also be specified with an Akrapovič exhaust system.

In the fastest and most powerful Renault Clio IV RS Trophy 220 the 1.6 liter engine produced 220 hp (162 kw) and 280 Nm of torque. The car was capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, needed 14,5 seconds to cover 400m from a standing start and could reach a top speed of 235kph (143 mph)

Visually, the facelifted model came with redesigned headlights and tailights, new RS Vision multi faceted LED lighting on the front bumper, restyled side sills and new 18-inch wheels and specific sills.

Renault Clio IV RS 18

In 2018, Renault launched a limited edition Renault Clio R.S.18, named after Renault Sport Formula One Team’s 2018 challenger. The car was based on the Clio R.S. 220 EDC Trophy but featured a number of styling updates, including a black-and-yellow livery echoing the Renault’s F1 cars (Sirius Yellow for the F1-style front blade, protective side mouldings and wheel centre caps contrasting the Deep Black body colour) and unique R.S.18 badging. Inside the limited edition had numbered door sills, Alcantara/leather trimmed steering wheel, carbon fibre effect air vent surrounds and Renault Sport carpet mats.
