Renault Clio V6 Renault Sport Phase I
Description
The Renault Clio V6 Renault Sport is a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout hot hatch based on the Renault Clio launched in 2001 (Phase I) and updated in 2003 (Phase II), as a spiritual successor of the Renault 5 Turbo. Designed by French automaker Renault the Phase 1 models were built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing and Phase 2 were designed and helped by Porsche and built by Renault Sport in Dieppe.
The car was fitted with a naturally aspirated 3.0 liter V6 engine (ES9), that produced 230 hp (169 kw) in the Phase I and 255 hp (188 kw) in the Phase II making it one of the most powerful hot hatches of its time. The car accelerated from 0-100 km/h in 6,2 seconds (5,6 seconds for the Phase II) and could reach a top speed of 236 km/h (246 km/h for the Phase II).
Visually the car was radically different from the second generation Clio, featuring a wider body with heavily extended wheel arches, large bumpers and a side vent for cooling the engine that was positioned in the middle. Inside the car was a two seater with the engine replacing the rear passenger seats.
