Renault Twingo II RS
The second generation of the Renault Twingo was a A-Segment car launched at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show.
The fastest version of the model was the Twingo II RS, launched in 2008 and offered in sport and cup chassis. The car was fitted with a naturally aspirated 1,598 cc engine producing 133 hp (100 kw) of power and 160 Nm of torque, allowing an acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 8,5 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h (125 mph). The engine came with improved air filling rate thanks to a specific throttle valve unit and aluminium plenum chamber plus revised diameters and lengths for the air inlets, revised continuously variable inlet camshafts with longer opening and higher lift and revised combustion chamber design. It was combined with a revised version of the five-speed manual gearbox (JR5) with short ratios.
The car featured wider front and rear track, ESP that could be deactivated, a new exhaust, larger brakes and retuned suspension (1o mm lower ride height, 30% stiffer springs and dampers). The front suspension was s a pseudo-MacPherson type arrangement, with aluminium lower arms at the front, as well as an H-type programmed deflection rear beam. The dampers were mounted vertically with the addition of pushrods and coupled with variable rate coil springs, while the 24mm diameter rear anti-roll bar brought a stiffness gain of 25%. The Cup chassis rode another 4mm lower than the sport version while it featured retuned damper settings and higher spring rates (10% stiffer front and rear) . Outside, the Twingo Renault Sport Cup chassis stood out by its Dark Metal Grey 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels.
Visually, the RS version was distinguished by a wider grille on the front bumper, wider front and rear wings, sculpted side skirts, chromed exhaust tail pipe, 17 inch aluminium alloy wheels, and roof spoiler. Inside, the cabin featured Renault Sport seats, aluminium pedals, a leather steering wheel and a specific rev counter.
In 2012, Renault launched the facelifted Twingo II RS, featuring an new front end design that included new two-piece headlights and tailights, redesigned bumper with F1-style blade, redesigned rear wing, new rear bumper with a diffuser, aerodynamic extensions on the rear wheel arches, gray door mirror housings and updated 16 or 17 inch wheels. Inside the facelifted car came with yellow stitching and gloss black inserts.
