Description

The latest generation of the Suzuki Swift is a B-Segment car launched in 2017, based on the Heartect platform that is underpinning the Baleno and Ignis models.

The Suzuki Swift Sport was launched at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. It was fitted with the turbocharged 1.4 liter K14C Boosterjet engine producing 140 hp (103 kw) and 230 Nm of torque and mated to either a 6 speed manual or automatic transmission. The direct fuel injection system featured seven-hole injector nozzles, enabling increased fuel pressure and highly atomised fuel injection, resulting in higher engine output and a cleaner exhaust. The turbocharger system was equipped with normally-closed wastegate valve control, which defaults to the closed position to provide excellent response in normal driving, and opens to minimise fuel consumption when cruising. The engine also featured Variable fuel pressure control system, Dual intake air pressure sensor control, Air-cooled intercooler, Short-port intake manifold, exhaust manifold-integrated cylinder head, and a pendulum-type mounting system.

The car was 80kg lighter than its predecessor, weighting 970 kg, thanks to the new Heartect platform and numerous weight saving measures. It also featured improved chassis and body rigidity. The sportier suspension setting included Monroe front shock absorbers, thicker stabiliser joint bars with a Teflon seat added to the stabiliser mount, integrated wheel hub and wheel bearings and new trailing arm for the rear suspension.

Visually, the car featured a sporty bodykit that included a completely redesigned fascia (new front grille and bumper), rear spoiler, 17 inch wheels, blacked-out A-pillars, front-lip spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser and dual exhaust tips. Inside the car featured a flat bottomed steering wheel, semi bucket seats, sporty instrument panel, boost and oil temperature gauges, red accents, chrome finished shift knob, 6 SRS airbags and alloy pedals.
