VW Golf VII GTI (facelift) TCR
Description
The seventh generation of the Volkswagen Golf is a C-Segment car launched at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, based on the new MQB platform. The car received a facelift in 2016 with various mechanical and visual updates.
The VW Golf VII GTI (facelift) TCR was a special edition of the Golf GTI presented in concept form at the 2018 Wörthersee GTI event in Austria, inspired by the two-time championship winning Golf TCR racecar. The car was fited with a tuned version of the 2.0 liter TSI engine producing 213 kW (290 hp) and 370 Nm of torque, combined with the 7 speed DSG dual clutch gearbox sending the power to the front wheels. To manage all that extra power, the TCR got a limited slip differential in the front axle, larger diameter ventilated and perforated brake discs and driving profile selection. The car could accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds, while top speed could optionally be increased from 250 to 260 km/h.
Visually, the swan song of the Golf MK7.5 generation, is distinguished by the 18 inch Belvedere forged wheels (alternatively Milton Keynes alloy wheels of the same size can be ordered), the front splitter, black mirror caps, side sill extensions, TCR rear spoiler and rear diffuser. Other optional touches include a honeycomb decor foil for the side panels, carbon door mirror caps and a black painted roof. Inside, there were premium sport seats upholstered in microfibre fabric, seat belts with red detailing as well as an exclusive sport steering wheel with perforated leather and a red mark at the top.
Buyers can also customize their TCR with two optional packages. The first one included larger Reifnitz 19-inch rims with 235/35 R 19 tyres, the 260km/h top speed upgrade, sportier setting for the rear dampers and the DCC adaptive chassis control system. The second one was more track-focused and besides the top speed upgrade, the sportier suspension and the DCC system, it added Pretoria 19-inch rims shod in semi-slick 235/35 R 19 tyres and extra wheel locks.
