VW Golf VIII GTI Clubsport 45
The eighth generation of the Volkswagen Golf is a C-Segment car launched in 2019, based on an updated version of the MQB platform. In March 2020, Volkswagen unveiled 3 performance versions of the Golf – the GTI (gasoline), the GTD (diesel) and the GTE (plug-in hybrid), followed by the more focused GTI Clubsport (October 2020), the flagship Golf R (November 2020) and the anniversary model GTI Clubsport 45 (February 2021).
The Golf GTI Clubsport 45 is fitted with a new version of the turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0 TSI engine (EA888 evo4) producing 221 kW / 300 hp of power and 400 Nm of torque (the same with the GTI Clubsport. Power is transmitted to the front axle through a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic with the help of the electromechanical front-axle locking differential. The car also comes with a more focused suspension setting that is lowered by 10 mm (McPherson front axle and a multi-link rear suspension) and the optional adaptive chassis control (DCC). The Race package also includes a sport exhaust system and removal of the Vmax limiter.
Visually, the Golf GTI Clubsport 45 is wearing the GTI Clubsport’s bodykit (redesigned front bumper featuring larger honeycomb air intakes, wider side sills, rear diffuser with integrated dual oval tailpipes, two-part rear spoiler) however it is further distinguished by the unique 19-inch Scottsdale alloy wheels in high-gloss black finish with a narrow accent in Tornado Red, the “45” lettering, black roof spoiler and black mirror caps.
Inside, we find sport seats upholstered in ArtVelours, a perforated leather steering wheel “45” logo, integrated touch controls and paddles for the DSG gearbox, aluminum-look pedals, ambient lighting and GTI-specific graphics for the Digital Cockpit (12,3″ digital instrument cluster and 10″ central touchscreen).
