VW Polo III GTI
The third generation of the Volkswagen Polo (Typ 6N) was launched in 1994 with a completely new chassis, and received a facelift in 1999.
The performance version, VW Polo III GTI, launched in 1995 and was fitted with a naturally aspirated 16 valve, 1.6 liter engine producing 120 hp (88 kw) of power and 148 Nm of torque, combined with a 5 speed manual gearbox. The car accelerated from 0-100 km/h in 9,1 seconds and could reach a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). Visually the car was distinguished by the bodycoloured bumpers with double air inlets on each side, the white headlights and turn signals, the BBS alloy wheels and the GTI lettering on the grille.
The VW Polo III GTI (facelift) launched in 2000, with an updated version of the 1.6 liter engine producing 125 hp (92 kw) of power and 152 Nm of torque. The car accelerated from 0-100 km/h in 8,7 seconds and could reach a slightly higher top speed of 205 km/h (1274 mph). It featured lowered sport suspension by 10 mm with stiffer springs, ABS, EBD and EDL systems, while Volkswagen claimed that 70% of the components were new. Visually the facelifted model featured redesigned bumpers, new headlights with xenon technology, 15 inch BBS RXII rims fitted with 195/45 tyres, more modern tailight graphics, restyled boot and a small roof spoiler. Inside the dashboard was completely new, and the GTI version came with leather three spoke steering wheel, handbrake and gearstik, chrome inserts and sporty instrument panel.
