WRC drivers get behind the wheel of the Toyota Yaris GR-4

After revealing the exhaust sound of the upcoming Yaris GR-4, Toyota returns with another teaser-video of their camouflaged hot hatch being driven by Ott Tanak, Kris Meeke, Jari-Matti Latvala and WRC team principal Tommi Makinen. All of the drivers seem to be very pleased with the driving dynamics of the car, with rally-legend Tommi Makinen describing it as “exciting”.

As we can see from the short video, the car will definitely be AWD. Unlike the rest of the Toyota Yaris range, the GR-4 will feature a three-door bodystyle with an aggressive aerodynamic bodykit including redesigned front and rear bumpers.

In the past week, pictures of the GR-4 were leaked through Australian publications but we choose not to share them before the official debut of the model at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon this January.

During the official reveal of the new fourth-generation Yaris, Matt Harrison, Vice President of Toyota Europe, confirmed that there will be a racing variant of the Japanese supermini competing in the 2020 WRC season. He also confirmed that Gazoo Racing is working on spiced up editions of the new Yaris which will have a closer connection with the racecar and will be widely available (in contrast with the limited-production Yaris GRMN). It remains to be seen if the Yaris GR-4 will be a homologation special of the WRC racecar, or a widely available production version.
